Born in a traditional farmer family, Srikant’s childhood was spent in extreme poverty. But he wanted to get himself out of it. This is the reason that today his hard work has paid off and his flower farming in 52 acres is flourishing. But his path to reach here was not so easy. Srikant told ‘The Better India’ that his childhood was spent in poverty. Born in a farmer family, he was always in debt. To get out of this, he wanted to study but after 10th, his parents said that now they do not have money to educate him.

After this he saw that there were immense possibilities of success in the field of flower farming
Flower Farming
Seeing this, he decided to do something of his own with full courage and courage. Without any financial help from anyone, he started buying flowers from farmers and trading them with very little capital. After this, in 1997 he opened a small flower shop in Bangalore city. However, his decision was full of challenges and the first challenge was of capital. The investment per acre in flower farming is higher than traditional farming. The investment is higher and hence the risk is also higher. Although Srikanth had some savings. For further assistance he contacted the National Horticulture Board. He invested all his savings and started flower farming in 10 acres of land, which has now increased to 52 acres. Srikant says that the difficulties he was facing while setting up the farm are no more. Now the situation has changed. Now everyone wants to come forward to help.

Today, Srikanth cultivates 12 types of flowers in his 52-acre farm near Doddaballapura, Bengaluru. These flowers include roses, gerberas, carnations, gypsophila and other flowers which are grown organically in greenhouses and polyhouses. At the age of 40, Srikanth is earning handsome profits from his flower farming venture. With clients from across the country, Srikanth works with a team of over 200 people from rural Karnataka to turn over Rs 70 crore a year.
Organic Farming
Srikant says that he tries his best to do organic and sustainable farming. Therefore, whatever remains left after harvesting the flowers, they make vermicompost and then use it in the fields. He says that most of the youth now do not come into farming thinking about profit and loss. But if you work hard in the right way and in the right path then good money can be earned in this industry also. Similar hard work is required in flower farming. Only then you get good success.
